About your son...

Yesterday wasn't what I expected. It was something else.

Yesterday I shipped the longest piece I've ever written. Twenty-five hundred words on Hasan Piker and the licensed-opposition racket. Hours of work. Hours of stress. Hours of consuming his content to get the diagnosis right, and feeling disgusting the whole time. Letting that man-child into my brain for research is not something I want to repeat.

When it went live, I expected a certain kind of day. You've been good to my recent work. I expected the same here. I expected the viral lift. I expected to feel like I'd hit something big.

Part of that happened... share ratios were strong. Walter Kirn reposted something I wrote in the conversation around the piece, which for those who don't know him is a real literary signal. Look him up, he's great! The email list responded. The piece traveled.
