tear it all down

that's how I work

·2 min read

I don't like to tweak things or spend too much time trying to fix something that is clearly broken.

I'm much more of a "tear it all down, and start from scratch" kind of guy. Always have been. I can't tell you how many times I threw out entire acts of my Thomas Massie piece and started over from scratch. You wouldn't have liked the versions I threw out as much as you liked the final version, I promise you. And there was no fixing them. They were fundamentally flawed. They had to go.

It was painful, I worked hard on them, and they were genuinely good in many cases... Didn't matter, they didn't work. They didn't fit the overall vision. Gone.

Many people don't have the conviction to do this, I've noticed. It's not easy. It's painful, even. Killing something you love and care about.

I've noticed this attitude is seldom rewarded in politics. In fact, people usually react in horror when they encounter it. What explains that?

Here's what I think it is... Private Ownership. I own this thing. It's mine. I can kill it tomorrow if I want, or I can spend the rest of my life growing it. The choices and their consequences are entirely on me.

Now ask yourself... who owns the Government? Who bears the ultimate responsibility for its decisions? Nobody. Not one single person.
