thomas sowell is even better than I realized

and I already thought he was the man!

·1 min read

The day after tomorrow Sowell will be a 96 year old man. Isn't that incredible? What a gift it is to still have this man with us, and still doing interviews with a sound mind! His most recent one was back in January.

By the way, you can find that video, as well as nearly every other interview he's ever done on my new watch page on ReadSowell.com.

I'm deep into my Sowell piece right now. It will be coming out either tomorrow or the day after. We will see. While writing it and doing deep research on the man, especially tonight, I am realizing that he is so much cooler than I ever thought, and I already thought he was pretty cool!

I always thought of him as an economist. A free market guy who could explain to those silly socialists how the world really works. And he is that, don't get me wrong. He's one of the best to ever do it.

But he's actually something much better than just an economist. Good free market economists are a dime a dozen, really.

Sowell is into real, cold power analysis. While he's certainly expressed sympathies with libertarianism, he's not driven by it as a core value. He was never an ideologue who centered his politics around a morality play.

Everybody else, left and right, argues about what the right answer is. Sowell's deepest question was never "what's right." It was who gets to decide, and who pays when they're wrong. There are no right answers, there are only tradeoffs... to paraphrase him.

The man is a proper predator. Always was.

The best teacher I ever had, and he doesn't even know who I am.

God bless him,

~ Clay

p.s. I'm working tirelessly to get this piece right. I won't stop until it's done. This one is very important to me, and I am a little nervous about how some people might respond. That's usually how I know it's going to resonate.
